…In my kitchen, In my weightloss journey or In mommyhood. Join me for another day in my life. Baring it all! The good, the bad and the ugly.
Today marks one week after my surgery. I had intentions of writing a post to tell you how it went, but obviously it just hasn’t happened yet. My husband has been home with me and just went back to work this morning. You’d think that with him being home, I would have taken advantage of him being there to look after the little one so I could write, but instead, I just enjoyed my time home with him and focused on recovery. Now that he’s back to work, I’ll have to try to write while keeping an eye on the little man and when he goes down for a nap. I promise that I will do a post to tell you about it though. In the meantime, it’s Tuesday, which means it’s weigh-in day!
I wasn’t sure that I was going to do a weigh in today but since being home from the hospital, I’ve still been weighing myself everyday. I don’t want to not do it and end up going backwards with my weight loss. I think that if I continue weighing myself everyday, I’ll be able to catch any increases, should there be any, and try to turn them around quickly. Ha! What am I talking about? There has been an increase already!
My OB was able to do my surgery laparoscopically but what that entails is blowing my abdomen up with CO2. I came home still resembling somewhat of a puffer fish. I was swollen for a couple of days and weighed a few extra pounds from the 147.7 that I was when I went into the hospital. Each day, I watched the number on the scale go down and then it leveled out at 147.7 again for a few days. In that time though, I was pretty much eating anything I pleased. I had a McDonald’s cheeseburger and small fries. Not one, but TWO pieces of cake! Chocolate ice cream with crushed up Reese’s Pieces on it. The night before my surgery, after dropping Parker off with my mom, I cried, therefore, I justified having a Mint Oreo Blizzard! It was Eric’s birthday last Friday and seeing how I wasn’t quite in any condition to go out for dinner, we ordered in Chinese food on Saturday. I love Chinese food! I had weighed 147.7 for a few days by the time Chinese food came around. The next morning though, 150.8! I went from 147.7 to 150.8 overnight! Great! I now had 3 pounds to burn off all over again and at a time when I’m not allowed to exercise! Fortunately, I think it turned out to mostly be water weight from the Chinese so I have lost some again. Here’s how I’m doing, one week post-surgery:
I’ve lost a little more weight and a little in my measurements as well!
Check out those pictures though! I got a new phone. Mine was 3 years old and I dropped it on the cement the night before going into the hospital and cracked the screen. Way to go, Mel! My new phone apparently takes much brighter pictures but it also gives my skin a lovely(?) shade of pink… I’ll have to see if there’s a way to fix that.

Way to go Melanie! You certainly are a great inspiration! It’s good that you took a week off to recover and love on your husband. Post baby weight is something 99% of the world struggles with. So great to see someone else fighting the war! (Even if Chinese wins a few battles.) 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Heather! I think the fact that 99% of us struggle with it is why I’ve put myself out there and tried to be honest about the daily struggles but that progress can still be made. I used to be one of those people that had every excuse in the book why I couldn’t do it. There are no excuses anymore. And yes, Chinese and cupcakes definitely win the battle some days but by allowing those indulgences, it keeps me on track, rather than completely falling off the bandwagon.
